Pretty good little kit, but don’t pay too much for it I bought this item a few months ago at an army surplus store in Idaho for about $5.00. (I am not sure why it is categorized as a toy…)

It’s probably a better gadget for a Boy Scout it does have some handy tools in a compact package. The compass it true, the fire-starter would be good for a few uses. The signaling mirror works nicely and the magnifying lens will get a fire started using dryer lint. The whistle is not very good. The temperature and hygrometer do not work.

Harold Churchill "Norseman" says:

Most functions don’t work It’s too inexpensive to return so I bought a second unit. In both cases, the thermometer and hygrometer are grossly inaccurate. The compass sticks (doesn’t rotate freely). The Flint fire starter does not work, couldn’t get a single spark. The whistle works, so does the level and the magnifying glass (a little distortion). The straightedge/ruler is OK. This is a cute but nearly useless toy.
