To use, twist black base to get to battery compartment. The Life Gear 8” Lantern takes 4xAA Batteries. When inserting the batteries, make sure the batteries are being inserted over the battery compartment holder. The battery compartment is tight but is useful in helping the batteries stay in place in case the lantern is dropped. The lighting modes change with each click from LED Lantern, Red Glow & Emergency Flasher. A convenient hook is located under the black base you can hang the lantern anywhere you need light.

Life Gear LED Lantern: Good for an emergency kit Ever since going through five days of power outages due to Hurricane Sandy in late October 2012, then followed by the subsequent Nor’easter just days later, I’ve been taking a second look at what essentials needed to be kept on hand in case of other emergencies that might happen to strike. Was well prepared with most items, but having a small, compact LED lantern was one of those things that was at the top of my list.

LG447 – This is not your Dad’s kerosene latern! Remember the kerosene pump lanterns with the cloth mantles and wicks? What a pain and not too safe! My Dad and brother still use them to impress everyone being “old school” Sorry dad, but at least the kids can be close, touch and actually use the LG447 lantern. We’ve needed to replace some table top and tent lanterns for our summer get a ways and this is perfect. I was skeptical about the quality for such a low price. Well, we’re very happy with the purchase and will definitely be buying more…

Smaller than expected but lights up pretty well Its made entirely out of plastic, but seems pretty durable. I mean as long as you are not slamming the thing against everything it should be ok. It has a rubber o-ring to keep out water from the battery compartment, I haven’t tested it but hopefully it holds. Placing batteries inside is a little tricky, as it almost seems like they wont fit but they will. I got this latern mainly because I liked the hook that comes on the bottom, it folds and unfolds pretty well. Although the handle is rather…
